I always end a run as a better person than when I started. Maybe it's just the act of getting outside and pushing my body or maybe it's how my mind resets itself. Either way, one thing is for certain, running helps me to be a better human being.

When I come across turmoil in my life or feel like I am wasting away, I lace up my Nike's and I head out the door. What I'm searching for is clarity. Through running, I am able to find answers to things that I struggle with, and the confidence to attack them head on.

By pushing myself on the track or the trail, I experience first hand the capability of my body and know that my mind will give out far before my body falls short. It is not an exercise in physical conditioning as much as it is an ongoing process of mental sharpening. Day after day and mile after mile I become stronger, not just as a runner but as a husband, a father, a human.

I am a work in progress with many things to improve on and learn about as I become older. I still make my fair share of mistakes and reap the consequences of bad decisions that I continue to make. But, through running I am getting better. As I push myself through my workouts, I am learning how to approach life with the same attitude and learning that I am way stronger than I ever imagined.

Running makes me a better person.
