It comes as no surprise that beauty enthusiasts are turning to natural skincare lines they feel they can trust. There comes a great comfort in being able to understand a simple ingredient's label. Typically, most skincare products contain mysterious synthetic chemicals — names of which we often fail to recognize or even pronounce. One of the latest skincare lines to hit the market, Horticulture Skin Care, stands apart from such elaborate and mass-produced mediocrity.

As a skincare aficionado and former editor of horticulture books at Timber Press in Portland, Ore., founder Juree Sondker's deepening love and understanding of medicinal plants led her to create her own beauty company. "I was a fan of taking plants and herbs internally, but once I realized what an effect they could have on the skin, I set about finding the most nourishing and active plant oils for a potent plant-based elixir", Sondker says. She now plans to uproot Horticulture Skin Care to Boulder, Colorado where she continues to work as an editor — now at Roost Books.

Her first offering is Plant Potion, a luxurious botanical blend of 14 of the world's most regenerative plant oils. The result is a uniquely potent yet balanced elixir made up of 14 botanicals that promote cell turnover, skin rejuvenation, and collagen production — while nourishing the skin and calming inflammation. This active serum is like superfood for your face, helping to heal scars, even skin tone, and lessen the appearance of fine lines. Horticulture's liquid bottle of gold is also homegrown, using  plants sourced from her very own backyard and from other local sustainable growers and suppliers. She hand blends each bottle and packages them herself in her studio.

Here, Sondker shares with UNDO how to make an all-natural exfoliant, that's perfect for the summer months ahead.

Coco - Sugar Exfoliant

Coconut oil is rich in proteins that keep skin healthy and rejuvenated, both internal and externally. Predominately made up of saturated fats, when applied on the skin, coconut oil retains skin moisture, promotes an even skin tone, reduces the appearance of pores, and acts as a disinfectant due to its antimicrobial properties. Make your own all-natural scrub with this super easy recipe:

1 Tbsp coconut oil 2 Tsp superfine baker's sugar

1. Combine 1 Tbsp coconut oil and 2 Tsp of superfine baker's sugar (coconut sugar also works well).

2. Mix into a paste and scrub face and neck gently for a couple of minutes.

3. Rinse!
