Today we shine brighter than ever. The past week has been one of the heaviest and I can say I have ever had to push through emotionally and spiritually. Alton Sterling, Philando Castile,Micah X Johnson, and our latino brothers and sisters Vinson Ramos, Melissa Ventura, Anthony Nuñez, Pedro Villanueva and Raul Saavedra-Vargas did not die by the hands of police in vien. If you haven’t seen the Killer Mike Hot 107 interview click here. It’s a real call to action. Now that we’re awake (because not all of us are WOKE) it’s time to mobilize and use our inner vision to see through the long division and titles of movements and understand these are systems that we are fighting against, not people not races, this revolution is a personal, choice by choice revolution that begins with self love and self care.
There is a disconnect and a spread of confusion because media has twisted so many details meant to derail a movement that just wants human equality. There is no equality before the recognition of discrepancies. Co founder of Black Lives Matter Patrisse Cullors said “When Black people get free so will everyone else, when trans women of color get free so will everyone else.” I truly believe this. Get off your timeline and get involved (oh, wait before you go out make sure you download the “Mobile Justice App” for your state on your iphone and Droid and record all interaction w/ police, photography is a form of power). We all have the general understanding that the Police are here to keep order, what’s not understood is that this order they are keeping is both white supremacist and capitalist. The Police have to be held accountable. What do we have to do for them to stop shooting us? I will leave this open for more discussion.
This week’s playlist is as charged as the times are, with sounds from Kendrick Lamar, Fela Kuti, BADBADNOTGOOD, The Internet, Talib Kweli, Nina Simone, and even some classic Blu & Exile. Something I wanted to share before you dive ears first into the #MOVDAY playlist is when listening to “Expansion Outro” this was bonus track from Reflection Eternal’s first album (“Train of Thought”), is re-imagining of Nina Simone song “Four Women” released back in 1966 I hope you find some light in these dark times. Vibrations are all we got.
