Perfect Skin from Within

How to restore and balance your skin by maintaining a healthy diet. We've all been victims at some point in our lives of spending more than we'd like to on skincare. Whether we are purchasing skincare products to add hydration and radiance or to rid acne and control problematic skin, it seems like we're never completely fulfilled or happy with the results. Though I do believe some products are great (Burt's Bee's face exfoliator to drop a name real quick), we can cleanse and restore our healthy glow, natural radiance, and general balance by adding essential nutrients into our daily diet. We're so cautious of the foods we're putting into our body for the sake of our figure and shape but we often forget that the foods we're consuming will also affect and benefit our skin. If our nutritional diets are so important for our physical health than why wouldn't it be so important for our skin? Much like working towards our desired summer-body, clearing up your skin starts from within, not the surface. Acne and problematic skin is mostly heredity and caused by hormonal imbalances. Dairy, white sugar, white flour, refined and high-glycemic foods throw off your body's natural hormones and trigger acne. Be conscious of your iodine and sodium intake as well, both also cause flare ups within the skin. So what should you be adding into your diet or consuming more of? Fruits, veggies, fish, and flaxseed foods that are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. Berries and Greens will play a big role in cleaning up your skin and restoring radiance. Restoring is the key word here, because we already have the key components within us, it's all just a master reset and maintain. Water, water, water. GREEN TEA GREEN TEA GREEN TEA. The thirst is so real, but it doesn't have to be. Are you drinking water with high PH levels? Not only will it help detoxify your skin, but it will help your body and immune system to operate the way it's truly designed to. Water with higher PH levels helps restore hormonal-balance. Want to be an over achiever? Make infused "detox" water! By cutting up fresh fruit and adding it to your water you're not only keeping yourself hydrated, but it also makes for the most convenient snack when you're at work, on the go ,or in traffic (for those of you that live on the 10, 101, and 405). Green Tea is packed with antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, reduces inflammation, and helps clean out the toxins in your skin. Studies have also shown that green tea has anti-aging benefits, helps your immune system function properly, and stimulates hair growth. Need I say more? Doctors and dermatologists recommend drinking 2-3 cups a day. Instead of purchasing and using expensive skincare, maintain your diet, DRINK WATER, and use gentle oils and natural exfoliants on the skin. Burts Bee's carries multiple skincare products that are all natural and great for your skin. If you feel your skin can handle it, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, and rose hip-seed oil make great moisturizers. Cetaphil, though it's typically recommended for people that have eczema, is also a nice moisturizer that caters to sensitive and problematic skin. You can purchase all of these at a Whole Foods, your local drug store or online. You could even shop skincare with Afterpay, making it super quick and easy for you to purchase the products you want. We've all got 99 problems, but your skin doesn't have to be one. KEEP IT RAW, KEEP IT NATURAL, KEEP IT REAL. Written by Celina Rodriguez @thecelinarodriguez
