With the exception of a 2 year Carr’s Cracker habit in college, I really don’t eat crackers of any kind regularly, let-alone gluten-free. Although I’m not against them, they’re one of those things that I immediately associate with lots of cheese, which I generally avoid.

Nevertheless, I figure someone out there will appreciate this info and most importantly I’ve found my new junk food obsession. SPOILER ALERT….

Red rice crackers by Lakai. I can’t even contain myself with how crispy and savory and delicious these things are…mainly due to the amount of oil in them but I digress, they are my current munchie obsession, possibly replacing Hippeas White Cheddar Puffs.

Even though most of the crackers I’ve consumed in my life included cheese, bean and veggie dips are tasty too, hummus is just the beginning. To keep it simple, the brands I ranked are only lightly seasoned so you may be able to do without a dip.

  1. Lokai Red Rice Crackers

PRODUCT NAME: Laiki Red Rice Crackers

Tagline : “Gluten-free, whole grain goodness"

Top 3 ingredients: Red rice, sustainably sourced palm fruit oil, sea salt

    Tastes like ...savory, salty butter.

Goes great...alone. The texture of this is light and airy, so weighing it down with anything would do it a disservice. Plus it's seasoned perfectly.

  2. Mary's Gone Crackers Original Seed Cracker

PRODUCT NAME: Mary's Gone Crackers Original

    Tagline: "Authentic. Organic. Gluten-free. Always."

Top 3 Ingredients: Brown rice, quinoa, flax seed

Tastes like ... an earthy seedy cracker in need of a little more flavor. I ended up leaving them at a friend's house who loves cheese.

Goes great with... something thick to overpower the slight bitter aftertaste of the crackers.

  3. San-J Black Sesame Rice Crackers

PRODUCT NAME: Tamari Black Sesame Brown Rice Crackers

    Tagline: "Gluten-free Soy Sauce"

Top 3 ingredients: Black Sesame, Potato Starch, Brown Rice (also contains soy)

Tastes like: Very earthy but savory. A little too crunchy. The outside has a shiny coat of teriyaki glaze so be sure to store them well so they don't soften.

Goes great with: An edamame hummus, wasabi optional
