Do you know how much protein grapefruits and guavas have? Quite a bit, so they make for the best protein shake when you're bored of bananas. My afternoon slump hits around 4PM along with a case of the munchies, so a filling shake is a way to wake up and curb cravings. This mix also keeps pretty well (not like banana shakes) so you can take it to your work or school for a later time. DE-SEED or no? Those annoying guava seeds are said to be good for digestion so if you are having issues they could help to promote bowel movement and relieve constipation. Guavas are in season at different times throughout the year and can be found in larger groceries and can sometimes be found in the frozen section as well. The fiber content helps protect the colon mucous membrane by decreasing exposure time to toxins as well as binding to cancer-causing chemicals in the colon. Need more protein? Adding a tablespoon of Spirulina will give 4 more grams of protein if you are more active. I also add a 1/4t of Camu Camu powder when my immune system seems kind of low. One teaspoon of this tart Amazonian superfood has more Vitamin C than 10 oranges so a little goes a long way.

Guava Grapefruit Protein Smoothie

Makes about 12oz

3 guavas, or about 3/4c frozen pieces

Juice of 1 Grapefruit

1tb or more of Spirulina powder (optional)

1/4t of  Camu Camu powder (optional)

TIP: Use a large citrus squeezer to juice grapefruit or run through the juicer making sure to remover the white pitch as much as possible. Be sure to blend the guava really well so there are no chunks to clog up your straw.
