Linnea Bullion is a photographer, writer, and contributor to Undo Magazine. Her work is inspired by bright colors and open plains. In an ideal world, she would be running her own botanical garden.
Our submission system is simple yet flawed, and we know it. Sometimes we don't give enough attention to the artists and creatives
1.WHAT IS ONE SONG THAT DESCRIBES YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR PARENTS?
This one doesn't actually describe my relationship with them (they're not werewolves) but it always reminds me of my dad driving through the suburbs of my hometown... Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon. And for my mom, Dust in the Wind by Kansas (I remember her telling me about a time she played it for her parents. It has been a striking visual for me ever since).
2. HOW HAS THE INTERNET CHANGED YOUR HUSTLE?
I feel like I have much more ability to shape the brands I work with. It's so much easier to be put in touch with the right people simply by direct messaging the brand on Instagram. Despite my love-hate relationship with my phone, it is nice having an ever-updating portfolio!
3. HOW MUCH SLEEP DO YOU GET REGULARLY?
7-8 hours a night. I use a sleep app to monitor my sleeping (though truthfully, I should probably just keep my phone in another room at night. I keep it in airplane mode though!) and it always claims I sleep much better at 8+ hours.
4. DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR HAVE YOU EVER HAD ONE?
I don't have a single mentor (nor have I ever). With that being said, I do have a lot of friends I look up to and can turn to for advice on various aspects of my creative life. Everyone has so many different areas of strength, it's great being able to turn to them for their experiences. I find that the photography community on the whole is really supportive. I was a bit surprised by that when I moved to Los Angeles, I thought it would be more competitive. I've been pleasantly proven wrong.
5. WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU WANT TO ELEVATE IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR FAMILY?
I'd love to see them more often in general. I'm the youngest of four; two of us live in Los Angeles, one in Minnesota, and the other in Maine. I want to have mini-reunions across the country. We're pretty good about getting together for the holidays in Minnesota, but I suspect that's going to start changing over the coming years (my sister in Maine just had a baby). I miss them and my parents all the time.
6. HOW HAS YOUR INDUSTRY CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?
My career is still in its infancy, but Instagram has definitely shaped the photography industry (for better and worse) the past few years. I feel like people are finally starting to shift from an Influencer-focused mentality to hiring photographers based on other qualities than the number of followers they have. If a brand didn't hire me just because I didn't have enough followers, I probably wouldn't want to work with them anyway (though maybe that's just because I still have days I'm self-conscious about my follower count. So bizarre to admit!).
7. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STRETCH?
Child's pose! It helps me feel grounded.
8. WHERE DO YOU GO WHEN YOU NEED SPACE?
I really like to drive. Just out, anywhere out of the city. That's one great thing about Los Angeles: it's easy to find wide open spaces––be they desert or mountains.
9. HOW DO YOU UNDO-ORDINARY?
By being my weirdo self. 10. HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR COFFEE?
Black! Unless I'm at a coffee shop––I'm a sucker for lavender lattes.
11. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO CONTRIBUTE TO UNDO MAGAZINE?
I first saw UNDO Magazine at The Outpost and was drawn to it from across the field. As soon as I paged through it, I knew I wanted to be a part!
12. WHAT WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED FOR?
My positivity, hopefully. Maybe some poetry. Maybe some photographs. To be remembered at all is a blessing––I'm not really concerned with for what. Follow her on instagram @linneabullion
